Well considering it is Earth day I figured we should talk about some of the ways to go green AND save money at the same time.

Recycle

Most places don’t charge for recycling collection but do charge for garbage collection. So, save money on garbage collection costs and recycle. You’ll lighten your garbage load and help save mother earth at the same time.

Water

Instead of always buying flats of bottled water or a bottle of water everyday invest in a reusable water bottle. The 1.69 you are paying for a smart water everyday adds up fast. Get a water filter and fill up your water from home everyday or refill while you’re on the run at water fountains or many gas stations or restaurants let you refill your water bottle for free.  You’ll enjoy cold water all day without filling a land mine.

Electricity

Instead of leaving your unused appliances plugged in all day unplug them! You’d be surpised how much money you will save by just unplugging your cell phone charger when you’re not using it. So don’t stop with your cell phone charger, unplug your toaster, you’re unused computer etc.

Gas

Instead of driving down the street get some exercise and walk or bike. Park at the first spot you come across in parking lots. You’ll save gas by not driving around the parking lot in circles and also get some extra exercise. Put your car in neutral when waiting at a light instead of keeping the engine working so hard. Notice if you take your foot off the break when its in drive the car still creeps forward because the engine is still working. Don’t be a lead foot! It takes more gas to speed up and slam on the breaks than to just drive a cautious steady pace. Also if you can try and stay under 60 mph and you’ll increase your mpg!!
