Negotiating a Price

Haggling is an art form that many other countries exercise. When I travel around the world street vendors and boutique owners will try to negotiate prices with me so I will make a purchase. The funny thing is, I have heard of people who do that here in America.

I have an inconstant opinion regarding this because a part of me absolutely thinks if it benefits the consumer and the retailer then it is a fair sale. Another good thing about haggling is it makes selling personal again; takes the importance off the huge retailer and back on the manager and the client.\

The problem I have with this though is I don’t want price adjustment based on the expectation of us haggling. We all know if we don’t negotiate with a car dealer then we are getting a bad deal. Just as we know if we walk up to the necklaces on the side of the road and ooh and aah over them, open our cash filled wallet (cause we’re traveling), and then try to negotiate a price we are going to get duped.

I like living in a country where I feel I am offered the same price everyone else is. I like to know it’s the price I have to pay and that’s final. Because of this I am hesitant to support haggling if it’s going to affect the way we set prices.
